As quickly as possible please understand that my physical handicap is lifelong, results in chronic pain, requires expensive maintenance medication through specialty delivery, and by looking at me in person you would have no idea — not the slightest hint — that I’m part of an extremely rare group. With the physical issues, I must stress that the emotional and mental development process is one very different from “healthy” or “positive” in hindsight. Others have similar experiences, especially in our youth, because our bodies are in a one-time change and discovery period (puberty = hormones) in circumstances 90% beyond our control.

During our Youth as Human Beings, we are wired to look for guidance and support and care for the most part — so when those roles are occupied by influences that are unintentionally or intentionally broken or dysfunctional, it’s the only map we know. If our instincts tell us one thing and the people who house and feed you tell you those instincts are “bad” or “wrong” then they — like most people — probably are conflicted about a lot of things…
